Two Down

The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity

I’ve previously talked about all the important astrological events taking place this decade. So far we’ve seen two of them already occur. The first item (#1) is the demi-return of Neptune to the US Neptune in 2021 and 2022. The three previous returns or demi-returns, happening about every 84 years, were in 1938 and 1939, 1857 and 1858, and 1774 and 1775. I think you can see a pattern.

This Decade

The second item was the Pluto Return 2021, 2022, 2023 (#4). This is Pluto returning to the position it had at the birth of the United States in 1776. Of note is the Pluto demi-return in 1936, 1937, and 1938, the “Roosevelt Depression” that followed the height of the New Deal as a response to the Great Depression. The opening square of Pluto corresponded to the Mexican-American War and especially the aftermath, which expanded the United States by adding California, most of Arizona and New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and some of Colorado. This was the biggest expansion of America in history, bigger than the Louisiana Purchase some forty years previously. This will be discussed further at a later time. This was a big expansion of the United States. The closing square of Pluto to its natal position was in 1982 and 1983 and the beginning onslaught of neo-liberalism under Ronald Reagan. One could see this period as the true end of the New Deal. This would change American for decades to come. Also note that there was a midpoint configuration of the three outer planets just before this Pluto square.

And we can already see the early results of this Pluto Return in the reshaping of America that we see now. In 2016 and the election of Donald Trump I described him as a farce. In the type of theater known as a farce, the main character often has a physical characteristic that sets him apart. In a farce everything is exaggerated so we can see what is really happening. Obviously in the first act of the Trump farce people did not pick up on what was happening so we have a rerun that is more farcical than ever — the farce level is turned up to 11. Donald Trump is not sui generis. He is just a continuation of Presidential actions that have gone on at least since Harry Truman right after World War II. As an example, billionaires have always run the government but they were usually wise enough to stay behind the scenes. Now we have a billionaire running the government right out in the open so all can see. All presidents, at least for several decades, have performed unconstitutional acts but they were wise enough to do so in secrecy. But now we have a president who trashes the Constitution out in the open. All government is corrupt, the higher the level the more corrupt, but now with Trump the corruption is so brazen one hardly knows where to begin pointing it out. All subtly is gone, the blatancy knows no bounds. One hopes that the audience figures out the corruption is wide-spread. A problem occurs when people think “my teams is good, they never do anything bad. Everything is the fault of the other team”.

It’s a big club and you ain’t in it

In the last decade we’ve seen the phenomenon know as Trump Derangement Syndrome – TDS. TDS 1.0 was better know as Russiagate – the belief that Donald Trump had been put into office with the nefarious schemes of Vladimer Putin, the evil dictator of Russia. After Trump’s first term there developed TDS 2.0. He was a lead insurrectionist, he was trying to overthrow the election!! He was a multiple felon. I’m sure all those charges made Team Blue members feel good but others might not be so sanguine. Now with his second term we see TDS 3.0 wherein Trump sold out the US to his boss Putin. Unfortunately this covers up the real crimes of Donald Trump. Class War has been practiced for a long time but Mister Trump has found a way to make it acceptable to other classes (not him or his associates). Now that other class believe he is fighting for them when he is actually fighting for his class. What a perfect con. In fact this is the best Presidential Con of all time.

We are also seeing another form of TDS. This is the belief among the supporters that Trump is almost perfect, he can do no wrong. In this case we have Trump Devotion Syndrome. It is if his devoted followers are a parody of the supporters of most other candidates. These followers are so devoted that whatever their leader does they will excuse it, even if it directly conflicts with what he told them before the election. He was going to drain the swamp even though it is clear he is a member of the swamp. He was going to get to the bottom of the Epstein case, even though he now says it is merely a Democrat made-up story. But still, to his supporters, Trump is the Man.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

This reminds one of the terms of President Obama. In 2009 we were impressed by the first African American president who was bringing “Hope and Change”, also known as hopium. One would hope that scenes like the following would disabuse his followers: The Secretary of State under his first term laughed when a leader of a foreign nation was homosexually raped and then killed. I guess rape is funny if it happens to someone we don’t like. Then the most prosperous nation in Africa was reduced by the action of the first AA President to having open air slave markets. And the response of people to this action: crickets. Obama was called the Deporter In Chief because he deported more people than all other presidents including Trump. Obama was going to save the middle class, but after his election he bailed out all the bankers whose rash actions caused the financial crisis of 2007-2009, while many people lost their homes as a result. But no one who voted for him got upset. No one was satisfied with the current state of healthcare so Obama put in place a health care plan that was conceived by the same organization that created Project 2025, and that had been previously used by a Republican governor, but no one seemed to care.

Strong Neptune During First Obama Term

Note the transits during the first Obama term: Neptune was conjunct (#1 below) the Moon of the United States — the people are living under illusion — and also sesquiquadrate the Sun (#2 below) of the US — the government is also suffering from illusion. Note that natally the Sun and the Moon are related by a hard aspect, a sesquiquadrate, suggesting that there is always a conflict between the government (Sun) and the People (Moon).

Eighth Harmonic Graphical Ephemeris First Obama Term

Now we have “Trump and Change” (not to be confused with Chump Change) which is seducing people. Neptune is opposite the Midheaven of the US so again Neptune is strong. Many believe that this time it will be different. People always say that when their favored candidate wins. Many think that since Donald Trump is a maverick he must be better than all those “conventional” presidents. They cheer everything he does. But Trump is basing his crimes on the crimes of previous Presidents that were never called out, but making them more obvious. Hopefully many in the United States will wake up and realize the travesty that recent Presidents have been. Trump 2.0 is a very big wake-up call. If people do not pay attention what will come after Trump will be much more deadly and gruesome.

Neptune Opposite US Midheaven First Time

The difference between the Republicans and the Democrats — simply put — is that the Republicans believe that control of life should be left to the corporations while the Democrats believe the control of life should be left to the government, which is controlled by the corporations, so this is a distinction without a difference. But the two parties can appeal to different groups of people.

Neptune Opposite US Midheaven 2025, 2026

Various radical groups, such as the Black Agenda Report, have long considered the Democrats as the more effective evil. Everyone with intelligence knew the Republican were evil, but the Democrats were smart enough to hide their evilness and pretend they were “for the people”. But the roles are now reversed. Everyone should know that the Democrats support the elite classes, but the Republicans under Donald Trump hide their evilness and pretend they are now “for the people”. The Republicans are now the more effective evil and so are especially dangerous. It’s all a con and Trump now is the biggest con.

Laugh about it, shout about it, When you’ve got to choose, Every way you look at it, you lose

All presidents oversee the transfer of money to corporations who pay for the political parties but Trump has made this transfer of money upward clear for all to see with what he has called (probably lacking irony) a Big Beautiful Bill. Everyone can, or should, be able to see

But the farce of Donald Trump is just one sign that the whole world has jumped on the farce bandwagon. Take for example Israel’s war on Gaza (which still doesn’t have a fixed name). This war is clearly Trumpian. It should be obvious to any living soul that it is a genocide and many major war crimes are being committed, but many many people expend energy trying to pretend it isn’t and looking the other way. So something that is way over the top in evilness is though by many to be just business as usual. And perhaps it is. And if that is so, perhaps we need to examine what normal business really is. Maybe that is the clear lesson of this decade: Everything is being revealed; we can no longer hide from the truth of what has been happening for a long time, it is so in-your-face obvious that you really have to work to not notice it. Even though this is ugly it will prove to be a good thing: The End of Illusion that Neptune is providing. People were shocked when they saw pictures of skeletal figures after the Holocaust during World War II, but by that time it was too late to do anything. Now we see live-streamed pictures of skeletal figures and look the other way. This is progress?

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was to convince the world he didn’t exist

But what Trump intends to do is shift even more money from the Uranus Class to the Pluto Class, Everyone wants to do this but Trump convinced people (the Uranus Class) that he is on their side. Another example of a big, beautiful con. And ultimately Trump wants to bring about the Pluto future I mentioned in the previous post. But he has managed to convince people he is the Deep State’s biggest enemy.

Perhaps the shouting by the TDS 3.0 group hides the true evilness of Donald J. Trump, our first billionaire President. To best describe this involves the use of Pluto and Uranus as outlined in the previous post. It appears that there are two things he really wants: To shift power and money, even more than it already is, from the Uranus Class to the Pluto Class. And ultimately to bring about the future that the Pluto Class desires. But he was very clever in convincing parts of the Uranus Class that he was really on their side. Certainly this was a Great Big Beautiful Con.

Sometimes Satan comes as a man of Peace

Note: The author of the first quotation wrote a book (or perhaps it was channeled by his wife) about the twenty-eight phases of the Moon.

The Election

American historians refers to certain periods of American history by the name of the Presidents who served at the beginning of that period. The first such example is the Age of Jackson, roughly from 1829 to 1850. Andrew Jackson introduced a more people oriented democracy and “the spoils system”. Later there was the Age of Roosevelt, from 1933 through perhaps 1975 where concern for people rather than big business took center stage. Then we have the Age of Reagan from 1981 through 2015 when neoliberalism took center stage. When American historians look back at this period they will call it “The Age of Trump”.

Love him or hate him — and there seems to be no middle ground — Donald Trump seems to get the most press coverage and is talked about more than anyone else in this period, whether or not he is occupying the White House. His fans worship him — one described a campaign rally as being “like Woodstock” and many are hoping for his re-election. On the other hand many think he is the most dangerous candidate to ever run for President and swear that his re-election will turn the country to be anti-democratic. (They assume this country is a democracy, a belief that was disabused several years ago by Professors Gilens and Page (for example see https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-echochambers-27074746)). Very few seem to notice that Donald Trump is the first American President to be born on the day of an eclipse. Eclipses are supposed to be special. He is indeed special. But how did we get here?

Uranus Square Pluto

It all started in 2010 when the opening square of Uranus and Pluto happened. This was the first major hard aspect since the conjunction of those two planets in the Sixties. This square lasted through 2016. There were events like the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street happening at this time. Many people were getting quite upset at the elites that run the country and the world. In addition there was an opposition between Pluto and the US Sun, which meant also that Uranus was square the US Sun. In both the Republican and Democratic parties there were challengers to the established candidate who was running for the nomination of their respective parties. The Republicans had Donald Trump who no one in the party wanted but the people wanted. The Democrats had Bernie Sanders who no one in the party wanted but the people wanted. Turns out that the Republicans are more democratic than the Democrats and the rest is history. Considering the Uranus Pluto square on the US Sun it should be no surprise that the candidate who ran as an outsider and a maverick would win. It seems so obvious as we look at the transits. Perhaps the Democrats should hire an astrology consultant.

It seems recently there has been an uptake of support for Trump. There is an old idea (Lenin mentioned it 100 years ago) called “controlled opposition”. Everyone thinks Trump is an opposition to the “Deep State” (even though for example looking at the connection of his Vice President should negate that view). He vows to shut down the Deep State when elected (we can see how well he did in his first term) and this helped attract supporters. But appearing to be a dissident while secretly helping the Elite is very good for the Elite.

Pluto Opposite U.S. Sun

Graphical Ephemeris of Uranus, Pluto, U.S. Sun

In the above image you can see the square of those two planets starts at 1 in 2012. The Pluto opposite and Uranus square the US Sun is exact at 2 in 2914. By 3 in late 2015 the last exact Pluto opposition takes place.

Trump Assassination Attempt

The assassination attempt on President Trump helped to build this image that he is an outsider that the Deep State either tried to kill or botched the security in a major manner. This assassination attempt is even less transparent than the assassination of Kennedy (either one). The incompetence of those protecting the President was so mammoth to be almost unbelievable. But at least it resulted in a picture so perfect a better job could not have been done in a studio. Here is a chart for that event. The Mars-Uranus conjunction is square Trump’s natal Mars, an astrological cliche for what happened.

Things really started to change with the debate between Presidents Biden and Trump, much earlier than is normal for Presidential debates. Here is a chart for the start of the debate between Biden and Trump on Biden’s natal. The first thing to notice is that Saturn is on his nadir. It has been found that a person’s connection/popularity with the outside world is shown by the position of Saturn in the chart: When it is at the Midheaven the world recognizes you and when it is at the nadir your popularity is also at its nadir. The second thing to notice is that Pluto is square his Moon. Also the Neptune is opposite is natal Neptune so he is facing a Neptune demi-return, just as the United States recently did and as Ted Kazinski — mentioned a few posts ago — did at his death.

Start of Debate

Obviously the Biden decline is very recent. Over the years many many journalists interacted with him and no one mentioned his decline. No journalist would ever cover up such an important development as the mental decline of the leader of the Free World and so there was no decline. I think it must have happened just before the debate. My feeling is that someone slipped him a drug, or neglected to give him a drug, so that his decline would be noticeable. Since there is much debate preparation before the big event it is hard to believe no one noticed Biden’s lack of mental acuity. Perhaps some Democrats just wanted to get him out of the way and they used the debate as a way to do such,

It should also be obvious that the President does not really make the important decision of running the country. He is just a figurehead, a representation of the country for the world. In this case I think Joe Biden is the prefect President of the United States and should be even better for the next four years

USA Election Day

Let us first look at the transits for the day of the election. Mars is opposite Pluto (1) reasonably tightly. This suggests war or upset — both planets are said to rule Scorpio. People might be upset, what a surprise! Whichever side wins the other side will be very angry — remember Russiagate and January 6. The Sun is trine Saturn (3) suggesting a conservative mood for the day. Venus– the lesser benefic — is opposing Jupiter– the Greater Benefic — (2) and that aspect is exact the Sunday before the election. This suggests much — perhaps excessive — good luck. But also remember that Venus and Jupiter conjunct the US Sun natally. Perhaps this is just an echo of that at the time of the US Pluto Return.

Election Day With US

Next let us look at those transit as they impinge the US chart. Saturn is square the US Ascendant (1) and trine the US Sun(2), again suggesting a conservative outcome. But of course what “conservative” means in this situation and which candidate is most conservative is an open question which I will leave up to the reader. I think the election will have “Conservative” results but these only mask the major changes that will develop in the next year.

Next let us look at the transits with the charts of the two main candidates. Of course, who the two main candidates are may change between now and the election, but at least I won’t share the charts for Joe Biden that I had prepared.

It is very interesting that the two major candidates are both Full Moon births, and at the time of the election they both have very definite and strong aspects to both their Sun and Moon. This seems like very rare coincidence.

Trump on Election Day

Donald Trump is the only President of the United States who was born on the day of an eclipse — the eclipse was about five hours after his birth. It is a lunar eclipse, which means a full Moon. This opposition of Venus and Jupiter falls on his Sun-Moon opposition with Jupiter on Sun and Venus on Moon. What are the odds! How great is that? It promises great good luck!! And if Trump is elected this time he will share a unique quality with only one other President — serving two non-consecutive terms. The other President with this uniqueness is Grover Cleveland, one of the few President who had a child (named Ruth) while in office who gave her name to a candy bar.

Note I use a chart for Donald Trump that is about an hour earlier than the “standard” birth time. This does not make a difference to the transits considered here. But this time is from the Trump family astrologer who worked for a local newspaper. It gives him Leo rising rather than the first degree of Virgo rising,

So right now everybody is either freaking out that Trump is shoe-in or preparing to welcome the return of the king. But not so fast; even in the best of time being a President is not a walk in the park, it is definitely not great good luck or even moderate luck. Traditionally when we look at the chart of a to-be president we see Saturn aspects and with Trump there are none. There were some in 2016 which made me think he’d be elected. The next four years may well see the end of the American Empire, or at least it will be more damaged than it has in the last four. Whoever is President during the next four years, and whichever party that President represent, will be damaged by the actions of that period. This will be anything but good luck unless that is said sarcastically.

In recent weeks, especially after the Debate and the attempted assassination of Trump we have seen more talk amongst previous Biden supporters that Trump won’t be so bad, that they can accept him.

While I really have no idea what will happen between now and the election, and there are sure to be many twists and turns and things that are now totally unexpected, here are two possible ideas I have for what those transits to Trump’s chart on election day mean.

Trump casts himself as someone who will battle and defeat the “Deep State”. If he is not elected it will show that the Deep State indeed hates him. If he is elected, either the Deep State is not very powerful (unimaginable) or the Deep State wants him to be elected. In this case the Venus-Jupiter on his Sun-Moon indicate that the way to the Presidency has been paved for him.

America will decline more in the next four years than it has in the preceding eight, and there is nothing that can change that at this late date. Trump will have great luck by not getting elected President, he will have dodged the bullet, to coin a phrase. By staying back he will increase his fame and glory, he will be universally regarded as a hero. Meanwhile the candidate who is elected President will and the party this candidate represent will be universally degraded. Perhaps that party will even die.

Harris on Election Day

If we look at the transits for Kamala Harris (who at time of writing seems to be the Democrats choice) we see a much different picture. Whereas Trump has much luck, Harris has much hard work. Notice that Saturn makes an almost exact semisquare and sesquiquadrate to her Sun and Moon; she has big time Saturn aspects with the orbs to both Sun and Moon very tight.

The whole things reminds me of an old song lyric: “Laugh about it/Shout about it/When you have to choose/Every way you look at it you lose”. Those words are even more true now then when Paul Simon wrote them almost 60 years ago. Perhaps America will re-evaluate the way power and elections are run in the country. That will be great good luck!

DIY Presidential Election

People often ask “Where have the moderate Republicans gone?” The answer is obvious, they are still here but now are called “Democrats”. Former President Obama once gave the ploy away by saying that in the 1980’s he’d be considered a moderate Republican, and in fact he got a Republican health care bill passed, one designed by the right wing Heritage Foundation. These “Republicans” have gone on for forty plus years, and it was more accented in the current Democratic “convention” where many named Republicans spoke to unify the image that the Republicans have joined the Democrats. So essentially we have two Republican parties, the “Real” Republicans (TM) for a full-bodied Republican experience, and a Republican-lite Party, that will give you much the same treatment but with soupçon of progressive values. So whichever candidate wins the election, which is planned for November, a Republican will be our next president, beginning the 53rd year with a Republican President.

An interesting phenomenon of this recent election cycle is the number of Republican elites showing their allegiance to the Biden-Harris team. There are two ways of looking at this. Even though these elites could make more money under the corporate-friendly Trump administration, the risk is too great that the people might revolt since Trump is too up-front about his actions; it is better to have a more subtle corporate-friendly administration in charge so that the populace does not get too riled up and actually do something about their horrible so-called leaders. On the other hand, perhaps these elites know that one of the draws of Trump in 2016 was that since the elites hated him the people voted for Trump as a way to give the middle finger to said elites, and when the populace sees even more elites turning away from Trump they will support him even more, so that these elites actually want Trump to win. It is really hard to tell what their plan is.

And in the current situation where every question about the suitability of the Democrats can be answered by “but Trump” Biden can be even more Republican since he assumes the progressive have no one else to vote for.

Since this quadrennial exercise in something they call democracy has only two candidates that can win the election, we will inspect the charts for those two people.

As Paul Simon put it many years ago: “Laugh about it, shout about it/When you have to choose/Any way you look at it you lose”. Harry Truman also had something appropriate to say many years ago: “Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time.” But now the question is, who is the real Republican.

The current atmosphere is so intensely partisan that I will not pick a winner. Rather I will point out the relevant charts — election and inauguration transits and solar returns — and allow you to make whatever judgement most closely aligns with your politics. But whoever wins, the United States will have a Republican President, that I know with certainty.

Donald Trump 10:54

First lets look briefly at the natal charts. There are three of them. The first is the standard chart for Donald Trump, the birth time most commonly used. It gives him an Ascendant of 0 Virgo, and as someone who has a Virgo Ascendant, I find that very hard to believe. After the other chart — an hour earlier — was promoted, many astrologers used it as an excuse for their incorrect prediction of a win for Clinton in 2016. In this 10:54 chart we see Mars near the Ascendant, but since he is the first president not to start a foreign war in 40 years this seems a bad example of Mars on the Ascendant. But perhaps Mars being in the Twelfth house explains it: he wants to start a real war like other presidents, but the hidden effect of Mars in the twelfth house forces him to just apply many sanctions instead. But in both charts we will see Sun opposite Moon (that is a Full Moon birth) with the North Node of the Moon closely conjunct the Sun. Donald Trump was born under a lunar eclipse, something that has seldom been talked about, but it is certainly important. Eclipses have for millennia been considered significant and special. He also has Uranus conjunct the Sun, suggesting that he is an agent of change, whether he does the change or causes others to make the change.

Joseph Biden Natal

As far as I know there is only one given birth time for Joe Biden. In his chart all planets but one are above the horizon, suggesting a person directed towards the outer world, very comfortably in the public. The Sun-Venus conjunction (one degree in Scorpio) suggests an affectionate nature and willing to show this. Perhaps this in an indication of his famous “handiness” and preference to smelling the hair of young girls. Note that his Uranus is right on the Descendant (it is actually half a degree below, but if the birth time were off by just a couple of minutes, not unlikely, then Uranus would be above the horizon). Uranus here indicates that he attracts rebels or revolutionary people. Perhaps he is a closet Marxist? Note that he is a heavy Scorpio with four personal planets in that sign. The previous Democratic candidate also was a Scorpio. Perhaps his candidacy is the Scorpio revenge, since the sign was denied victory last time. The Sun sign of Scorpio is the most common sign for Presidents, along with Aquarius.

Donald Trump 9:51

The other time for Donald Trump, about an hour earlier, comes from who is know as the Trump family astrologer, Marilyn Briggs. In this chart we have Jupiter closely trine Uranus with the Ascendant sextile both, and thus also a midpoint configuration. Ebertin says of Ascendant equals Jupiter/Uranus “The ability to shape one’s environment according to one’s own ideas…Shared happiness with others”. Uranus and Jupiter together suggest a real love of freedom, a don’t fence me in attitude, optimism. This is the only real difference between the two charts, since most planets don’t move that much in an hour. In this chart his rising sign is in the middle of Leo. Ask yourself is Trump an example of Virgo rising or Leo rising?

Trump 10:54 Election

Let us look at the transits to these three charts on election day. For the first chart for Trump there is nothing very spectacular, and the only important transits are those that also occur in the other chart, since the angles, the only thing that really changes in an hour, are not affected. The important Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto conjunction, discussed in the previous post, is opposite the Venus-Saturn conjunction in the natal chart. Specifically, Saturn is opposite Venus — traditionally trouble with women (who knew!) — and Jupiter-Pluto is more strongly opposed to his natal Saturn, perhaps energizing his sense of responsibilities indicated by Saturn.

Biden Election

For Joe Biden on election day, we have that same triple conjunction opposite his natal Jupiter, perhaps emphasizing Biden’s sense of victory and optimism. Most notable is that the transiting Sun for this day is one degree from exact conjunction to his natal Mars: Joe Biden will feel particularly energized on that day, but hopefully he will not feel violent. Neptune is on his IC, opposite his Midheaven, and from the graphical ephemeris for this year we can see that the opposition was exact in April of 2020, about the time he was sewing up his command of the Democratic Primary, the middle of August — about the time of the convention — and finally for the third pass early February of 2021, shortly after the inauguration of the President. The only case I know off-hand of this transit of Neptune over the IC was a twenty-some male who “experimented with psychedelics” under that transit. I’ll go out on a limb and say that this will not be the Biden experience. Neptune in this position could indicate the spiritual underpinning of Mr. Biden’s campaign to save the soul of America, or it could indicate that his foundation (which is what the IC represents) is a delusion.

Trump 9:51 Election

The other chart for Trump is quite different. In this case the Midheaven has moved enough so that Uranus is at the Midheaven with an orb of 2 minutes (relocated to Washington, DC, where he currently lives; at his birth place the conjunction is not as tight). As we can see from the graphical ephemeris, this conjunction was exact in June 2020, May 2021, as well as November 2020. This conjunction could presage a surprise or upset. Since natally Uranus conjoins his Sun, Mr. Trump is a agent of change, and this election will emphasize it. To some, this election will bring in the fascist shock-troops, and a less partisan belief might say this election will cause major, perhaps even revolutionary, changes to the country.

Also of interest are the transits on inauguration day, which will be January 20, 2021. Interestingly, on the date of inauguration the transiting Sun has just entered Aquarius and is conjunct the spot of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction that happened a month before. While both Jupiter and Saturn have moved on, they are still loosely conjunct the Sun. There is also on inauguration day a tight — five minutes — conjunction between Mars and Uranus. Mars Uranus hard aspect are an astrological cliche, suggesting accidents. Ebertin says “Obstinacy, brutal frankness.. intolerance… premature action”. Sounds like what many people are predicting as a result of the election no matter who wins.

Trump 10:54 Inauguration

Looking at the Trump 10:54 chart, the conjunction mentioned in the previous paragraph is widely making a hard aspect – a semisquare — to Trump’s Sun-Node-Uranus conjunction and a wide sesquiquadrate to his moon. These aspects will remain for his other chart, since only the angles really move in the hour between those two charts. Other that a Venus sesquiquadrate his Ascendant, there is little action to his angles — Ascendant and Midheaven — just as in the chart for the election.

Biden Inauguration

For Joe Biden, that loose conjunction of Jupiter, Saturn, and the Sun is sesquiquadrate his Midheaven and square his Moon. This Saturn action may indicate that he is assuming serious duties, that of a President. Neptune is still on his IC, opposite his Midheaven, as in the election day chart, but it is closer, only one degree away.

Trump 9:51 Inauguration

Finally we have the inauguration chart for Trump born at 9:51. While the Mars-Uranus conjunction doesn’t do much in the other natal charts, for this Trump chart that conjunction is on his MC, not surprising because Uranus is on is MC for much of the year, as shown in the graphical ephemeris. This may indicate the uproar if Trump — with this natal chart — loses the election. Or it could indicate the uproar among the Democrats and their media if Trump — again with this chart — wins the election. If you thought the pushback in 2017 was something, wait until you see the response in 2021. Also this will be a good test of which natal chart is more accurate. Stay tuned.

Biden Graphical Ephemeris

Trump Graphical Ephemeris

We also have two solar returns to look at for each candidate, once because Donald Trump has two charts, and the other set because Joe Biden’s birthday is three weeks after election so that the return right after the election is possibly more relevant than the one almost a year before the election.

Then there is the age old question of which solar return to use, the one for the birthplace or the one for the place of location. Since both these men were born close to their current residence, this does not make much difference. But to some this is important. I knew a person once who spent the night in my house on his way to an obscure location in Eastern Washington because he thought he would have a favorable return at that location. The other question is should the tropical or precessed (similar to sidereal where an adjustment is made for precession of the equinox) zodiac be used for the return.

I once did an experiment with two friends, both astrologers, who had life changing health occurrences in a year. I drew up four return charts for the appropriate year: precessed and non-prrecessed for both the birth location and the current location, and these two locations for both people differed by over 1000 miles. We then looked at all charts, and without coaching by me they picked out the most relevant chart. I then made a judgement and chose the same charts as they did — it was quite evident which chart suggested the upcoming year properly. In both cases the non-precessed chart for the birth location was the one that worked. So that is what I have used for these two candidates.

Trump 10:54 Solar Return

The return for Trump for the 10:54 chart is not especially noteworthy. Nothing really stand s out to me. In this chart all planets except for the Sun are above the horizon, and the Sun is in the first house, the house of self projection. The Sun is square Mars-Neptune-Moon conjunction. That conjunction is important also in the Solar Return based on the 9:51 chart where we will talk about it. The Jupiter Pluto (and also loosely Saturn) conjunction is right on his Descendant. Powerful forces (indicated by those three planets) which have been building up during 2016 are most likely coming for him from the outside environment, thought some make suggest that he will have a dominating control over his environment. My belief is that the Descendant (as opposed to the Ascendant) indicates the external environment for the human being whose projection is represented by the Ascendant. Most of the planets above the horizon indicate that the year in question will be very public for him.

Trump 9:51 Solar Return

The return of the 9:51 chart shows that all of these planets are above the horizon, more so than in the 10:54 return. That would suggest that in the year to come June 2020 to June 2021 — he will be in the public eye. As in Joe Biden’s 2020 return, Mercury on the Ascendant indicates speaking to the public. The Mars – Neptune conjunction on the Midheaven is problematic. Mars-Neptune usually indicates unfocused or confused action — witness the Mars-Neptune square in the US chart. According to Ebertin, this conjunction on the MC suggest failure and a sense of inferiority, something that Mr. Trump feels from his childhood in Queens, an “inferior” borough compared to Manhattan. Or perhaps it suggests his sense of rejection at having lost the election. The Moon is also on the Midheaven but in the Tenth house suggesting that the public will be very aware of him, but of course that is a given.

Biden Solar Return 2019

The return for Biden for 2019 show most of the planets below the horizon. Only Uranus, Neptune, and the Moon are clearly about the horizon. Perhaps this indicates how he has been kept in the basement both literally and figuratively. The Sun is clearly at the lowest point of the chart reinforcing his actions from home. The Moon conjunct the Ascendant suggests his connection with the American people, at least Democrats, and is indicative of his amazing comeback in the Democratic primary, from almost dead to a front runner almost overnight.

Biden Solar Return 2020

The return for Joe Biden drawn for November 2020, shortly after the election, has of the planets below the horizon except Venus with Mercury slightly above and exactly conjoined the Ascendant. Perhaps this shows that he will not be the “real” president, but only a figurehead, and that others, like his vice president and other people that he has surrounded himself with even before the election, mostly retreads from the Clinton and Obama administration as well as some neoconservative Republicans, will be the ones really running his administration. In fact, I’ve already seen talk about the Harris administration, with Joe Biden. Uranus is on the Descendant, suggesting progressive forces trying to push him from the outside.

So there you have it, a look at the 2020 presidential election through the lens of astrology. Perhaps in a month or so we will know the results.

The Trump-Putin Summit and the Pluto Return

The meeting between United States President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin occurred on July 16, 2018 and the reaction from the Anglo-American press (I have yet to become familiar with the press of other countries in this matter) was immediate, vociferous, and uniformly hostile.  Many called Trump’s acts treasonous.  The term “traitor” was bandied about frequently.  If we look at the chart of the US with transits of the time of the summit, we can shed a little light on why the reaction of the political classes were the way they were.

Here is a chart for 6:20 in the morning eastern time, which means it was 1:20 pm Helsinki time, the start of the summit.  Since the aspects we will be looking at are not terribly dependent on the exact time, timing is not important.  Three aspects stand out.

tr-pu_summit_correct

Saturn is opposite both natal Venus and Jupiter, and in fact Saturn is almost exactly (one minute of orb) opposite the Venus/Jupiter midpoint — black arrow.  Jupiter and Venus are conjunct, and both conjoin the Sun of the US in the natal chart; this triple conjunction is very important in determining the basic self image of the United States.  I’ve discussed this at length in an early post about the Virtuous Nation.  It is difficult to imagine a “nicer” conjunction than that of Jupiter (the “greater benefic”) and Venus the (“lesser benefic”) and since that conjunction is conjunct the Sun of the United States, the country’s sense of self and vital energy, and all the other characteristics of the Sun, are modified by Venus and Jupiter.  The United States has a self image as a beneficent noble country that started with the shining city on the hill, as John Winthrop (Massachusetts 1630) said of the United States, long before the country actually existed.  That line is from the Sermon on the Mount and has been used by many others, such as Ronald Reagan.  So we see that this Jupiter Venus conjunction is extremely important to the US self-image, and the county’s leaders are always shocked when other people do not believe or accept that self image.

But on the day of the summit Saturn was opposite those two planets, and exactly opposite the midpoint of the two planets.  Saturn and Venus/Jupiter are not exactly good buddies.  The placement of Saturn there casts a shadow on Venus/Jupiter, on that self image that America holds so closely to.  Saturn indicates a threat to the image that America is an exceptionally good country.  American does not like that!  That aspect suggests why the reaction was so rabid; deep down, the wonderful self image of the United States was threatened, and that is not good.

Notice that both an aspect and a midpoint are involved in this configuration, suggesting that it is stronger than if only aspects or only midpoints were involved.  We will see in a future post how this applies in other areas.

This next planetary configuration of importance also involves aspects and midpoints: Transiting Mars is sesquiquadrate natal Mars and natal Neptune (red, green arrow), and is exactly on the Mars/Neptune midpoint.  In the US natal chart, Mars and Neptune are square, with an orb of one degree.  This square is also very important to the behavior of the US.  Mars and Neptune are difficult planets together, and the square is probably the hardest of major aspects between the two planets.  Mars – Neptune suggests deceptive uses of energy, or more to the point for a country, the US is under a delusion that its use of energy, war — the most clear manifestation of Mars for a country — is always good, for obviously the US is the shining city on the hill which only has the best interests in mind when it goes to war.  There are many other things that could be said about this aspect, but that is a discussion for another time.  While the country believes that its action are of the highest moral purpose (Neptune), there is much delusion or incorrect belief about the real purpose of those wars.  If one delves truly into the motives and outcomes of various US wars, such as the Vietnam War or any war in Iraq, that is quite obvious.

With transiting Mars involved with the two planets and that aspect, much anger (another Mars term) is brought out.  Everything represented by that Mars-Neptune square is energized.  How dare anyone try to claim that the new Cold War between the United States and Russia (which of course is only due to the bad actions of Russia and the demonic Putin) is not fully warranted, journalists howl.  This is very threatening.  As former UK ambassador to Uzbekistan Craig Murray titles it on his blog, detente bad, cold war good is a current American mindset.

A third aspect of note is that the transiting Sun — representing the day of the event — is conjoined the natal Mercury, representing the press in all its many forms (blue arrow).  There was a Twitter explosion over this summit, and mostly invective.  The major mainstream media fell over themselves in condemning Donald Trump for his treasonous behavior.

A lot of this is the manifestation of Russiagate, the scandal that has engulfed Washington over the last two years.  At first I thought it would eventually die out, but it seems to be sticking around and is gathering even more energy.

Since Watergate, the scandal that brought down President Nixon, occurred during the closing semisquare between Uranus and Neptune, I had long though that the opening semisquare of those same two planets which we see now would see another Presidential scandal.  And I’m beginning to think that this extremely large scandal, perhaps the largest in American history will, when it resolves, be the basis of the Pluto Return of the United States.

As far as I know, no country with any type of constitution has survived long enough for a Pluto Return — the return to the natal position — at about 250 years.  Look at how often even England, not to speak of France or Italy, have formed a new birth chart because of a new government or Constitution.  But the United States keeps ticking along with the same old Constitution.  (For examples of how the Constitution, which is revered by many as almost the Ten Commandments, has been the cause of many of the problems that bedevil this country, see The Frozen Republic and The Velvet Coup both by Daniel Lazare.)  If you are over thirty, you realize how important the Saturn Return — when transiting Saturn returns to the place it occupies at birth — is to our own growth as an adult.  And the effects of the Saturn Return are noticed several years before the event.  I’ve known of marriages, divorces, and major moves that have happened in the run up to  the Saturn Return.  The Pluto Return is even more powerful.  And we will soon get to see one of the World’s first examples!

plret_tg

Here is a graphical ephemeris of the three and a half year period for the Pluto Return.  We see Pluto first comes close to its natal position in early 2021 (black arrow); the first exact conjunction is at the beginning of 2022; the last pass is a the end of 2023 (red arrow); and the last near conjunction is at the end of 2024, though of course that period could be extended.  I believe what we are seeing now will result in a major shakeup in the government, more powerful than what occurred after Watergate.

There are two basic theories of what we are seeing that is called Russiagate.  Either one is unprecedented in the history of the county.  And of course the people that are supporting either narrative differ from the standard Democratic-Republican or even left-right dichotomy that we usually see.  One side is backed by “Establishment” Democrats and Republicans, along with (of course) the intelligence services and all the media outlets, newspapers and television news channels.  The other side is backed by the “extreme” left and right along with corresponding blogs, since there are no mainstream outlets for such divergent voices. Also, several prominent experts in Russian history support this position, but of course they are never heard from in mainstream sources.

The official narrative goes something like this: The Russians conspired to fix our election of 2016 (along with many other elections and movements around the Western World) so that their chosen candidate would be elected, and that candidate likely colluded with them to do so.  Thus we have the President of the United States working for a foreign power.  When in the Fifties the John Birch Society, a conservative anti-communist organization, charged President Eisenhower with being an agent of the Soviet Union, most people laughed it off.  But this time all the press (Mercury), or at least the “prestige press”, are uniformly in agreement and in fact broadcasting the scenario.  To have an actual traitor running the government who is in thrall to a foreign leader is something no one believed would occur in this country.  Many are calling this the new Pearl Harbor or bigger than 9/11.  When the proof of this is final and that traitorous candidate is eliminated, a major shakeup in the government and in election procedures will occur.

The counter narrative has it that the Deep State (what I called the National Security State in a previous entry) conspired to put its chosen representative, Hillary Clinton, into the White House, and when the unimaginable happened and the candidate they were sure would lose became President, they conspired to prevent the current president from doing much and hopefully driving him from office, either through impeachment or other less sanguine means.  The whole Russiagate narrative is like a snipe hunt for America.  The Deep State has much practice in regime change for other countries, and now it is applying those techniques here at home.  This too is unprecedented and when it comes out that this is happening a major shake up of the United States government will occur.

So there you have it, two mutually exclusive scenarios, both of which are beyond what has happened to the American Republic since its birth and both of which will require major changes in the laws of the land and perhaps even the Constitution to prevent such a thing from happening again.  In either case we have a major shakeup coming, fitting exactly with the meaning of a Pluto Return.

History Repeats

An obscure journalist in the Nineteenth Century, who became better known through his books and manifestos, once said that “History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce”.  We are now seeing the truth of this dictum played out before us.
The Nineteenth Century journalist Karl Marx wrote a book called The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Napoleon.  People in the present mostly don’t recognize “Eighteen Brumaire” which for the educated European of the Nineteenth Century would be as recognizable as is 9/11 is today.  It all has to do with the end of the French Revolution; perhaps if we called that date sixteen years ago the twentieth of Virgo it would not be so recognizable either.

After the French Revolution, many things were changed.  For example, the customary methods of weights and measures were replaced by a more reasonable system based on units of ten, which was called the metric system and which I believe it is still in use in a few countries.  And the calendar was changed.  The French Revolutionary calendar had months corresponding to zodiacal signs, and Brumaire is Scorpio, so 18 Brumaire is 18 Scorpio or November 9.  The year in question was 1799.

So What happened on November 9, 1799?  It was well known again to European intellectuals of the Nineteenth Century.  There was a coup in France by Napoleon Bonaparte against the Directory of the French Revolution that ruled France, essentially installing Napoleon as a dictator in France and ending the French Revolution.  This was a big deal.  So the date 18 Brumaire was when the French Revolution ended.  Let us look at the chart for that date.

brumare

Eighteen Brumaire

In this char Sun is conjunct Neptune,   and it had passed over Neptune two days  earlier, possibly when the planning for the coup took place,  This conjunction suggest confused days in Paris.  And it certainly was. The tightest aspect is the sesquiquadrate between Pluto —  revolution, transformation — and Venus – justice.   And it certainly was that.

History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.

One of the contentions of this blog is that every time there is a midpoint configuration involving Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto – – at most three per century — there is a major change in the zeitgeist of society, which could be called it a soft coup.  We are living now under the combined impact of the three coups from the Twentieth Century, since the first from the Twenty First hasn’t happened yet.  The one closest to us in time, and so the one we most notice since many are still alive who remember life before that event, is what I call in shorthand the Neoliberal Coup, even though the previous one, called the National Security State coup, is also very strong, and will be discussed in a later post, though it has been discussed before.

We have seen this played out in the present.  The commanding issue of this time is Neoliberalism, since it originated with the midpoint configuration of the late Seventies discussed earlier.  These midpoint configurations indicate such a large change in society that much is different afterwards, so much so that we find it difficult to believe that another world was once possible and may be again.  This Neoliberaism coup finally crashed with the so-called Great Recession of 2007-2009, when Pluto crossed the cardinal axis and into the sign Capricorn.  The hero designated to slay the dragon of neoliberalism was Barak Obama.  And he appeared to suggest that he was the Champion who could do so — remember Hope and Change?  I’ve discussed before  the strong influence of Neptune in the election of Obama.  But he proved not to be the Champion people wanted him to be, and this was the tragedy.

income_dist

These two graphs illustrated what has been happening.  The first one shows allotment of income in economic recovery — after each economic downturn there is a recovery when incomes increase.  In the recovery after World War II, under President Harry Truman, 80% of the income increase went to the bottom 90 % of the population and only 20 % went to the top 10%.  This ratio kept falling during subsequent recoveries after other downturns, and by the recovery under President Reagan the upper 10% got 80% of the income increase, leaving only 20% for the bottom 90% of the population, the reverse of what happened under Truman.  But at least the bottom 90% got some income increase. This changed under the last recovery, under President Obama.  In that case the bottom 90% lost about 15% of their income, while the upper 10% gained almost 120%, or in other words got some income from the bottom 90%, thus increasing the already massive inequality.  This is unprecedented in the last 70 years.

wealth_dist

The next graph shows the distribution of wealth — assets — of families over the last 100 years.  We can see that the top 0.1%, that is the upper one tenth of one percent of the population, reached a height of 26% of the total wealth in 1929 right before the start of the Great Depression.  Their share of total wealth then fell until the late Seventies and the beginning of Neoliberalism; at this point their share was only 7%.  That share started to increase, but still the share of the wealth owned by the 90% increased until it was 36% in the mid-Eighties under President Reagan.  It then began to fall, and of course the share held by the upper tenth of a percent increased until now they have almost met and crossed.  We await newer figures with anticipation!  But one can see from these two graphs that things have gotten worse for the bottom 90%, and this was foretold when newly elected President Obama told a group of assembled bankers, who expected the worst, that he was the only thing between them and the pitchforks.  And now that he is ex-President he has been rewarded by those same bankers with two $400,000 speaking engagements and of course a $65 million book deal, and in early May he made a $3.2 million for a speech in Milan, showing clearly that he is not a part of the 90%

A recently published book by a Professor Emeritus in Economics at MIT called The Vanishing Middle Class: Prejudice and Power in a Dual Economy by Peter Temin lays in out.  He says that American society is dividing into an upper 20%, in the finance, technology, and electronics sector, and the lower 80%, and that those two groups are increasingly divided from one another.  Those in the two groups live in different countries, and do not communicate.  Needless to say, those running the media – newspapers, television — live in only one of those worlds, unlike many years ago before the Neoliberal Revolution when many journalists were from the 80% that are not in the FTE sector.

Barack Obama was chosen to run since he was a much better mask to hide America, a biracial mask that was more glamorous than the one offered by George W. Bush, whose behavior had damaged Brand America.  And he promised Hope and Change (TM) which people believed somehow would solve the problems that Neoliberalism had brought into their lives.  But as we have seen by these graphs, and many studies, not only did things not improve, but they got worse.  Inequality increased over the last eight years.  So the mask has been ripped away, and America is seen as it truly is.  Now things are blatant with a louche businessman as the face of America.

pl2su_exact

Pluto Opposite Sun

One clear sign that the current populace of the United States is not happy with the current government, current President, and in fact all of what was called in a simpler time the “Establishment” was shown obviously by the transit of Pluto opposite the United States Sun, depicted above by a chart for an exact pass and below by a graphical ephemeris for a five year period.  The Sun represent the President, etc. and revolutionary, transformative Pluto is opposite it.  The last time this opposition happened the Sun represented the King of England, Georrge III; the result was the American Revolution.

pl2sutg

So next comes the Farce.  In a farce, situations are often exaggerated so that people understand what is going on, since the situation under the tragedy was somehow too subtle for people to comprehend, or the influence of Neptune was too strong.  Often the protagonist in a farce is indicated by some outward comical characteristic, say to pick an example totally at random, flaming orange hair.  The real problem in this farce is that people may not understand that it is a farce, and they will either attack the messenger — always a bad idea — or believe if only the farce stops things will go back to normal and everything will be as it should be.  One can imagine people demanding that the previous mask be returned to them, that if only the mask comes back things would be well.  One would think by now people would realize that the farce is just an exaggeration of what was the situation before.  To be more specific, Donald Trump is not sui generis, but rather an exaggeration for emphasis, as is usually the case in a farce.  But of course the Powers behind Neoliberalism are only too happy if you attack the Protagonist of the farce rather than the men behind the curtain, themselves.

The Inauguration

Donald Trump is the gift that keeps on giving.  His name is everywhere, filling the newspapers.  If you live on the West coast or in the Northeast it is mandatory that you hate him, even though we are told that love trumps hate.  A friend suggested that I look at the chart of his inauguration.  As you can see from the event chart below, the Inauguration of out 45th President started at 11:45 in the morning of January 20.  I’m not sure if this started before noon because the Vice-President has to be inaugurated before the President, and the President must take the oath at Noon, or this was just a bit earlier than noon for some other reason.  However, the chart drawn for noon has the Moon well below the Descendant, by almost 5 degrees, though it is above the horizon a degree and a half. This illustrates that the horizon — which people had an instinctive knowledge of –` and the Ascendant/Descendant` are not the same

Chart At Noon

Note:  Because of limits of the software, the whole word “Inauguration”  can not be spelled out at the top of the charts, so  one character is missing.

Inauguration

The most prominent aspect to note is that the Moon is opposite the Ascendant, Mars is sesquiquadrate the Moon, and Saturn is semisquare the moon.  And in fact you can see a “cats-cradle” formation between the Moon, Saturn, Mars, and the Ascendant, indicated by the arrows.  Jupiter is square the Midheaven, promising good fortune but not without difficulty (square)and because Jupiter is also opposite Uranus, we have a loose T square with the MC at the apex of that opposition.  Ebertin says for this “optimism, a love of change and variety”.   Looking at the fourth harmonic chart (below), we see Mars-Saturn is opposite along the Ascendant and the Moon, Jupiter is very tight to the Midheaven, and of course the Venus Pluto sextile in the first harmonic chart is now a trine in this fourth harmonic chart.  The Moon = Mars/Saturn midpoint combination is not too pleasant: Ebertin says a ”a fit of depression”.  And for the Ascendant = Mars/Saturn he says “obstacles caused by other people”.  Mars Saturn is a difficult combination.  Some have compared this combination of planets to driving with the brakes on: Mars wants to go fast, and Saturn wants to hold back.  It can suggest difficult progress on actions that are taken hastily.  Since this combination is connected with two personal points, the Ascendant and the Moon, it is very powerful.  And as we can especially see in the fourth harmonic chart that this whole configuration — Moon, Mars, Saturn, Ascendant — are tightly bound together, as is Jupiter to the Midheaven.  It suggest slow progress but with much depression and anxiety amongst the populace, perhaps especially women (Moon). But this is cause for optimism with Jupiter so tightly connected to the Midheaven.

Inauguration  Fourth Harmonic

Looking at the transits of the time with the US chart (below), we see that the two tightest aspects are both trines — harmonious — with the transiting Mars trine natal Mercury, and, almost as tight, transiting Sun — the day — is trine the US Midheaven.  These are both very tight, as can easily seen in the third harmonic chart (also below), where trines come out as conjunctions.  We can also easily see from this chart that there is a tight Moon-Neptune trine (conjunction in the third harmonic), both transiting.  Since the Moon represents the minute, the exact time of this event since the Moon moves so fast, at this moment in time the populace (Moon) were confused (Neptune) or self deceiving (Ebertin).  Also  note  the sesquiquadrate between Neptune   and the USA Mercury, which says much the same thing.  The trine from the transiting Sun to the US MC is beneficial, promising that this President will be very purposeful in achieving his objectives, which of course may not be good news to many people.  The other trine — Mars to Mercury – – suggest much the same, forceful movement towards a goal, an active mind and many angry (Mars) thoughts (Mercury).  The media of the United States (Mercury) will find forceful pressure from the incoming President.  Finally we have transiting Mercury opposite Jupiter, the third tightest aspect: There will be lots and lots of things to talk about with this upcoming administration.

That of course is assuming Donald Trump is President for very long.  It is no secret that many are out to get him, including the National Security Establishment and the Democrats.  Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned on the cable news channel MSDNC that Trump is “really dumb” to criticize the intelligence community since they have “six ways from Sunday of getting back at you.”  As I write they have already drawn first blood, with the firing/resignation of Michael Flynn as his National Security Advisor.  As anyone who has watched nature movies knows, when a predator smells blood they go in for the kill.  Now that one member of the administration is down, and Trump has shown that he won’t support his representative, and thus looks weak, there will be attempts to pick off other members of the administration, starting of course with the weakest, aiming for the big prize, dislodging Donald Trump himself.  The chart below show what I believe is a critical time for him, and it could be a fatal time: This is August 21. 2017.

Trump At the Solar Eclipse

The first thing to notice is the both the Sun and Moon are conjunct and on his Ascendant. But notice that the Node of the Moon is there also, meaning that this is a Solar Eclipse, and indeed it is the one famously visibly in America.  This is a tremendous omen for the president.  For those who use Fixed Stars, Regulus, the Heart of the Lion, is also at this point, and that suggests a downfall of epic proportions.  But also notice the position of Saturn, exactly conjunct his Moon and opposite his Sun.  On this day Saturn is stationary but the exact point where it turns direct is four days off.  Saturn has been on his Moon and Sun all of 2017 and it has not been a pleasant time for him.  And because of Saturn’s retrograde travels it has been a very, very long time: Donald Trump is getting hit by Saturn as long as is possible.  I’m sure he’s hurting, but he won’t show it.

Here are few keywords for the fixed Star Regulus: Brave, bloodthirsty, ambitious, egotistical.  You get the idea.  More can be found by a search on line.  Sound familiar?  Now keywords for Ascendant conjunct the Ascendant: Great wealth but troubles, benefits do always last.  Again, you get the idea, this describes a person very successful but with an ultimate downfall. As I said in the previous paragraph, the end of August looks like a most problematic period for Donald J. Trump —  too many people are after him!

Donald J. Trump

This will be an Interpretation of Donald Trump’s chart, as if he were just a person and not the Donald.  There is a wide range of opinion on our President-elect, and since most astrologers these days are liberals, I assume most astrological opinion is extremely negative about this person.  I thought it would be interesting to look at his chart not knowing who the chart actually belongs to.  While we have discussed this chart previously, and compared it to the United States chart, this will cover new material.

trump-nomcasp

No Aspects to Angles

A first thing to notice when looking at a chart is the general shape.  In this chart all planets but one are within the trine between Jupiter and Uranus, all on the Ascendant side of the chart; opposite is the Moon which exists all by itself on the Descendant side of the chart down in the fourth house (which is considered the ruling house for the Moon).  There is much emphasis on the Moon.  This man uses the Moon and the things symbolized by it to guide his behavior.  Among the things ruled by the moon are feelings, emotions, intuition.  Perhaps this man feels denigrated because he relies on his feelings more than rational thought to guide his behavior, unlike many men in Western society.  The Moon also represents women.  This male has a very strong feminine component and perhaps because of this he feels forced to brag about his sexual conquests in order to make other men think that he is “manly”.

trump_full

Donald J. Trump

When I looked at Barack Obama’s chart  I was amazed by the lack of aspects in his chart. This person also has few aspects.  The main core of the chart is the opposition between the Moon and the conjunction of Sun, Uranus, and the North Node of the Moon (the South node is conjunct the Moon).  (For Uranian astrologers, Vulcanus (21 Gemini 11) is also tightly conjoined to the Sun and Uranus and exactly opposite the Moon, adding even more emphasis to this opposition.)  This planetary complex shows that this man is a very Uranian person, the bringer of Change.  Uranus is named after the ancient god Urania, who is the grandfather of the standard Olympian gods and goddesses we know from Greek and Roman mythology.  But as Richard Tarnas points out, the planet Uranus has a Promethean cast.  Prometheus stole the fire from the gods and gave it to humans, and act for which he was condemned to have his liver eternally plucked from his body.  Some think Prometheus was the principle that allowed humans to become fully human.

This man was born under not just a Full Moon but a Lunar Eclipse.  With Sun and Uranus in the Tenth house near the midheaven, he is seen by the world at large as a Uranian (eccentric, revolutionary) person, one that upsets the normal order of things.  This is a very powerful chart, even more so because it is a eclipse chart.  The Sun and Moon opposition suggests a conflict between his Conscious (Sun) and Unconscious (Moon) sides, and this conflict can lead to a surprising, even contradictory range of opinions.  Some may even suggests that this person has two completely different sides, something that is also heavily suggested by his Sun being in Gemini, the sign of the Twins.  This conflict may come from the conflicting opinions of his two parents which he saw while he was growing up.  It can not be emphasized enough that this is a hugely Uranian person, for better of worse.

Jupiter Trine Uranus

The boundary aspect of the nine planets opposite the Moon is the trine between Jupiter and Uranus, which is also conjunct the Sun.  This person is very lucky!  Perhaps he will gain wealth and possibly even a high political office.  For this combination of planets Ebertin says optimism or a lucky chance.  Being a trine suggests that this is something that the native could draw on but is not causing him any problems.  It also suggests someone who does not like to be fenced in, who does not like restrictions on his behavior.

Venus conjunct Saturn, tight

Saturn does not have a good reputation, and when conjunct Venus it suggests someone unlucky in love.  He may act as a father figure (Saturn) to the women (Venus) in his life, someone who gets involved with younger women.  This tight conjunction suggests he may have trouble with women, even thought, or perhaps especially because, he has such a strongly (prominent Moon) female nature.  (For Uranian astrologers, Hades (25 Aries 24) is tightly square this Venus-Saturn conjunction, adding more difficulty to his relationships with women.)  Of this combination of two planets, Ebertin says a sense of duty, suffering through love.

Mars at the Ascendant

Mars is in the Twelfth House, but conjunct the Ascendant.  Since the Ascendant represents the part of your personality that is visible to others (keywords are personae or environment) people may see this person as martial, angry, or violent.  They may withdraw in fear from his angry side (Mars is a very masculine planet) further upsetting his strongly feminine nature.

Unaspected Neptune or Very Wide Square between Mercury and Neptune

There is a very loose square between Mercury and Neptune, so wide that I would not call it a square.  The orb is one minute over the maximum I use in natal work.  But some people may like a wider orb.  The nature of Mercury and Neptune is a loose connection for the truth, or in more brutal words the tendency to lie.  It may also suggest that the words of this person are not believed.  Some astrologers give emphasis to unaspected planets.  It is considered a “dumb” note, and thus it becomes important.  In the case of this man, Neptune has no aspects. (Jupiter has a strong aspect to Pluto in the Fourth Harmonic chart, as we will see below.)  Neptune, as has been mentioned before, rules delusion, illusion, spirituality, and drugs.  Perhaps this man abstains from using drugs, perhaps he is not strongly religious.

Jupiter square Pluto in Fourth Harmonic Chart

The fourth harmonic chart, also known as the 90-degree dial because 90 is one-fourth of 360, can show us details of the chart that are not noticeable in the normal chart, especially hard aspects that are whole fractions of a square.  In this case we see a strong square between Jupiter and Pluto, which is actually 67 1/2 degrees, which could be called, if you want a name, a demi-semi-octile.  Whenever I see Jupiter and Pluto together I think of money and plutocracy (which obviously involves Pluto).  This combination suggests, as Ebertin says, a desire for power.  But also, in a negative sense, the pursuit of fanatical aims, the desire to exploit the masses.  But it also suggests the transformation (Pluto) needed to make money, (Jupiter) to achieve abundance.

Finally, I want to stress again that the main driver of this chart is the Sun/Node/Uranus opposite the Moon, a lunar eclipse. This is a unconventional man who is very powerful and lucky.

The Trump Phenomenon

Election years in the United States are often more eventful that other years, and even though 2016 is not a “watershed” year like 1960, 1980, 2000, it is still proving to be quite interesting.  Interest, excitement, and constant news about the election keep people’s minds away from what is actually happening in the real world, serving as a good cover.

The first thing to consider is the major transit over the last several years, as illustrated in the graphical ephemeris below.  That was Pluto transiting opposite the Sun of the United States.  Since Pluto travels so slowly, taking about 250 years to go around the sun, this transit has never happened before in the history of the United States; the last time this happened was 1767-1770, when America was being hit by such measures from Britain as the Townsend Act, the Stamp Act, and the Tea Act, that were causing many Americans to become increasingly disgusted with the British.  In that case, the Sun represented Britain. Now the Sun represents the President and the government of the United States. This transit represents the extreme displeasure the citizens are displaying toward their elected government and President; many realize that after the Great Recession at the beginning of the current President’s term, their lives have only gotten worse, even though the lives of the wealthy, especially the bankers that caused the problem, have only gotten better, much better. During the last seven years the amount of income and more importantly wealth possessed by the top 1% of the population has increased to a level unseen since the first Gilded Age of the Nineteenth Century, and perhaps not even then. Meanwhile, the government tries to convince people that things are getting better, through speeches and bogus statistics. People are angry. This transit will be within two degrees of exact during this presidential year.

Pluto Transiting Opposite US Sun

This transit of Pluto “explains” the extreme animosity to the President’s ideas in Congress, and the rise of “insurgent” and “anti-establishment” candidates in the primary contests that so many commentators have mentioned. It is also why I believe that any candidate from the Party of the President can not be elected unless he or she strongly attacks the current President, which of course will not happen.

But first a disclaimer. When I write this, the first primary has yet to be held. Since these are primaries, candidates appeal (pander?) to their base so you can not believe anything they say. The candidates for the Reactionary Party (Republicans) try to be appear more conservative, and the candidates for the Conservative Party (Democrats) try to appear more liberal. We assume for this discussion that America is still a democracy, which is a very dubious assumption.

When Donald Trump initially announced his run for President of the United States I immediately discounted it as a publicity stunt by the host of a television reality show, one that only served to advance the agenda of comics such as Jon Stewart, who was still on the air at the time. But then I took a look at his birth chart.

I think that it should be a requirement that if you want to run for public office you need to provide an accurate birth time. But I expect that I’m in the minority in that view. Surprisingly enough, we only have two good birth times for all the presidential candidates this year (the other is Jeb!), including those who have dropped out. Even Hillary Clinton, who has been in the public eye for a quarter century, has two birth times twelve hours apart, which is of little use. Fortunately Donald Trump was well known long before the current election and has an accurate birth time.

The first thing I noticed about the chart is that it is a full moon birth, with the North Node of the Moon conjunct the Sun. This immediately told me that this was a eclipse, and in fact there was a full lunar eclipse on June 14, 1946. So Mr. Trump is an example of an eclipse birth. I recently had an eclipse in a solar return, and the effects were quite spectacular, so I started to pay more attention to his candidacy.

Three things stand out in his chart: Uranus conjunct the Sun. This suggests someone who is a maverick, revolutionary, eccentric, does not like the rules, a progressive mind (Ebertin);. Venus conjunct Saturn: difficulties with women, restrictions in love, a sense of duty (Ebertin). And lastly Mars at the Ascendant: Angry, a temper, displays violence, a fighting spirit (Ebertin). Because the Sun is quite important, I think his Uranian tendencies would be the strongest feature of this person, but most people would pay attention to his anger, since the Ascendant is what people notice, the persona as it were, and not the basic character of the individual, which in this case is more Uranian than martial. Most of his planets are in the East, nearer the Ascendant, and as was said before, this indicates someone who is more in charge of his own destiny.

It is also valuable to see how Donald Trump connects to the United States chart, since he is being seen and judged by the people of the Unites States. Here are two charts, the first with the US planets within the Trump natal chart, showing how Trump responds to the US, and the second with the planets of Trump within the chart of the US, showing how the US responds to Trump.

Most interesting is the Mars exchange in both charts. Trump’s Full Moon falls on the Mars of the United States (right), with his Sun conjunct the US Mars. Furthermore, Trump’s Mars (left) is opposite the US Moon. He definitely connects with the martial spirit of America – they love the angry part of him.  Some might suggest that this is sure to lead to war if he is President (of course, since the current President has gotten us involved in seven wars it will be tough to top him) but the most enduring trait of of a President is found in the planet most closely aspecting the MC.  For example, George W. Bush had Mars most closely aspecting his MC, and he is most known for his Iraq War. For Trump this planet is Mercury, with the Saturn aspect almost as close.  Does this mean he would be seen as an intellectual or communicator (I can hear the laughter now) or someone who reins in the country?

Another interesting connection is through Mercury.  Trump’s Venus-Saturn conjunction – the importance of which was pointed out earlier – is on the US Mercury (left), and Trump’s Mercury (right) is conjunct the very important US Sun-Jupiter-Venus. His way of thinking really reverberates with what America is at its core. And this to me explains why he has drawn such vociferous criticism –- Trump is America, and it is frightening to look in a mirror if you don’t like what you see.

Most interesting is how Trump’ Moon falls into the first house of the US: The US feels that this is a man that fits well with the country, that he is at home. This may explain his popularity over the years with America.

He has made some outrageous statements about Muslims, and this gives everyone a chance to decry that terrible man Donald Trump who we are certainly not like. He must represent the end of Western civilization, they proclaim , and though I have yet to hear anyone compare him to Hitler using that dictator’s name  (I stand corrected, I just saw one) , several have called him fascist. And the mass media certainly takes part in the pile-on, breezily reporting any statement that might offend the liberal readership . But some things puzzle me.  Trump has made several statements that are to the left of putative socialist Bernie Sanders, but these are never reported. One of the closest allies of America has a religious test for immigrants and no Muslims are allowed in, but this is never brought up. That same nation, while very close to Syria, has not accepted even one Syrian refugee but no one mentions this as some abomination. It’s enough to make one’s head explode.

It is interesting that statements suggesting there should be no Muslim immigration at present are considered a prime example of blatant Islamophobia, but the killing of many, many thousands of Muslims in several countries, the investigation of mosques in the United States, and the setting up up Muslims because they are Muslims for bomb plots is consider perfectly fine. I recently saw the figures that 23,000 bombs have been dropped on Muslim countries in 2015. It seems like the old adage that many of us learned as children has been turned on its head: Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. The major hypocrisy is mind blowing.

The most similar previous President to Donald Trump, in my opinion, is Andrew Jackson, the seventh President.

Andrew Jackson definitely had a temper. He was involved in some 100 duels during his lifetime, and carried a lead shot in his body until he died, since it was too close to his heart to remove. He killed at least one person in a duel.  Less that decade before he first ran for President he invaded Florida — at the time owned by the Spanish and a refuge of escaped slaves — and killed two British subjects. This could have been an international incident. Most of the cabinet of James Monroe were aghast at this, but his actions were defended by the Secretary of State, John Quincy Adams, who would later be involved more directly with Jackson.

Jackson became a war hero in the Battle of New Orleans when he defeated the British with a very small loss of his own men. Unfortunately, the peace treaty ending the War of 1812 had been signed a few days earlier. But this victory raised Jackson stature in the public eye.

When he first ran for the Presidency in 1824 it was against three other candidates, including John Quincy Adams, his old defender. Jackson won the popular vote, but not a majority of the electoral vote, and so the election was thrown into the House of Representatives. One of the candidates, Henry Clay, threw his votes to Adams, who thus won the election. Later, Adams appointed Clay to be his Secretary of State, and Jackson charged a “corrupt bargain” had occurred between the two men. Clay was probably the best choice for Secretary of State, but Adams’ appointment of him was tone deaf.  Jackson began campaigning for the 1828 election then, and Adams was unable to pass any meaningful legislation because of all the controversy. As result, John Quincy Adams, who has recently been estimated to have the highest IQ of any President, was not able to accomplish anything in his four years in office.

The campaign between Jackson and Adams was marked by several lurid charges that may very well be beyond the pale today. Jackson charged that Adams was a pimp, and Adams charged the Jackson was a bigamist. Adams may have arranged some dates for Russians when he was a minister to Moscow, and Jackson thought his wife was divorced (she did also) when he married her.

Jackson won the election in 1828, and people began to call him King Andrew. Many people were opposed to his Presidency, and those who were against him formed a new political party called the Whigs. At his inauguration many people crushed into the White House, common people who he was supposedly a representative of, and trashed the place, leading to upset among the good people of Washington.

Jackson hated paper money; he was proud that he carried gold and silver dust in a leather pouch that he could use to pay for things, that he thought was real money. He hated the Bank of the United States, an idea of the first Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, and his battles with the BUS president Nicholas Biddle led the way to the Panic of 1837.  I’m sure Jackson would be most upset to find that his portrait is now on paper money — the Twenty Dollar bill.

When the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Cherokee Indians of Georgia when the white settles wanted to take their land, Jackson essentially told the Supreme Court to “stuff it” and the Cherokees were overwhelmed. His solution to the Indian problem resulted in the Trail of Tears and similar excursions that sent Native Americans thousands of miles and killed many (see Jacksonland by NPR host Steve Inskeep).

But Jackson was a break from the “Virginia Dynasty” that had controlled the Presidency up until that time. All the previous presidents had been from Virginia if their name wasn’t Adams, and all had been Founding Fathers or their relatives.  Jackson was so important to setting a changed tone to the country that his period is called the Age of Jackson. He is celebrated annually by the Democratic party as one of their founders (along with Jefferson) but it was really his second Vice President, Martin Van Buren, who laid the foundation for the modern Democratic Party.

Andrew Jackson has been a popular subject for biographers, with many people writing about him such as Jon Meacham, H. W. Brands, and of course Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. The standard biography of Jackson is the three volume set by Robert V. Remini, which is also available in a condensed one volume.

Andrew Jackson

Here is a chart for Andrew Jackson.  Remember that birth times for Presidents born in the Eighteenth Century are necessarily suspect. His was a Full Moon birth, and in this chart he has Pluto at his Midheaven and Uranus at his Ascendant. Both planets were unknown at the time of his birth, Uranus being discovered a few years later. As we’ve explored often, the combination of Pluto and Uranus shakes things up.  Also of note is his Venus square Pluto — intense love.  He took offense at anyone who would say bad things about his wife Rachael, and even fought a duel over this.  He was crushed when she died right after his election in 1828.

One way of determining who will be president among the two candidates is to look at transits to their chart right after the election. Look for hard transits of Saturn to Sun or Moon. This indicates the responsibly that comes upon a person when they assume the role of President. It could also indicate the despondency they have after losing the presidency.

Here are three charts for Donald Trump right after the election of November 8, 2016. We see that Saturn is near his Moon and thus opposite his Sun shortly after the election on December 30, and it stays close until it turns retrograde and then approaches his Moon once again on April 23, 2017; it then turns retrograde directly on top of his Moon in August and moves away. The whole process takes many months in 2017; either Trump is very despondent at losing the election or it takes him most of the year to learn the responsibilities that come with being president.

Another relevant question is how often has a candidate replaced a two term candidate of the same party if he were not a Vice President who was put into office by the death of the President before him. For the Republicans this happened last when George H. W. Bush replaced Ronald Reagan, who then served one term. The other time was in 1876 when Rutherford Hayes succeeded two term Ulysses Grant.  That election was so marked with irregularities that it made the 2000 Bush v Gore contest seem non-controversial.  For the “Democrats” this happened three times: first when James Madison replaced two terms of Thomas Jefferson in 1808, then when James Monroe replaced two terms of James Madison in 1816 – he also served two terms; and finally when he was succeeded by John Quincy Adams. But all these men were running under a party that is called Democratic-Republican; the real Democratic Party was started by Andrew Jackson, who ran against Adams twice. For the new Democratic party, the only time this happened was when Martin Van Buren (the first non-English background President) succeeded Andrew Jackson.
